Hello everyone!!
First off, shout out to the coolest little sister who became
a teenager yesterday! Love you Taryn! Wow this week has been crazy. Not with
the language or anything that actually has to do with missionary work, but
basically everything else. So on Wednesday, 700+ missionaries came to the MTC,
including an additional 39 missionaries in my zone speaking Thai and
Vietnamese. There are 5 new Sisters and 34 new Elders. It has been so fun
getting to know the new Sisters and we do everything with them now. Apparently,
700+ more missionaries are coming tomorrow, 400+ the following week, and the
day after we leave 900+ are coming... It was hard enough trying to find a
washing machine this morning, I cannot imagine how much more crowded it is
going to get in the next few weeks.
Definitely the coolest thing that happened this week was on
Sunday when we went on our temple walk. I was sitting with my Branch President
and his wife just chatting about life when I see someone walk around the corner
of the temple and it was my friend Darian!! She was one of my closest friends
at ASU and I haven't seen her in months. It was crazy running into her at the
temple and talking for a while!!
Time before I leave is cutting short! I leave two weeks from
today and I am so excited but I also want to throw up every time I think about
it. I am not nervous about anything culturally, or actually being a missionary,
but the language is scaring me to death. I can tell someone about the love God
has for them and tell them about how to find happiness in this life but I don't
know how to ask for directions or order a bowl of rice. Oh well, I guess
missionaries have priorities when it comes to language learning in the MTC :)
Other than that, I feel like everything else is cgoing to be such a huge
adventure and I could not be more excited to finally get out and share the
gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
Something funny that happened this week was I was having a
conversation with one of my teachers (in Khmer) and I asked him "How do
you ask 'where is the bathroom?'" and he said "that question isn't
important" and and asked why and he said "a?mian" which means
"don't have." We all laughed so hard and made so many jokes in Khmer
about having to do your business over a squatter or out in the jungle. I am so
excited. Something else that I found out is missionaries aren't allowed to eat
the tarantulas because they can make you super sick and I am extremely
disappointed. Oh well, I guess I will just have to live with snakes, crickets,
and beetles.
Love you all and I hope you have a great week!!

2. Happy Birthday Taryn!
OK I just sent all of you an email of some videos of me and
my comp asian squatting and I discovered it is literally impossible for me to
do it with my feet flat on the ground. I need all of you to try it and tell me
if you can do it so I can see if there is something wrong with me or it is just
genetics. the rest of my zone can do it except me so this is life or death
here. You are all the best. Also if you can't see the videos send me a request
from the email and I can allow you to see it. Love you!!
