Hello
everyone!!!
This
week was seriously so awesome! To start, I went on my exchange with Sister
Davidson, one of the Vietnamese Sisters in my apartment. I got to live the life
of a Vietnamese missionary for a day! It just made me feel even more foreign
when I couldn't understand a single word anyone said :)
On
Thursday, we got to watch the General Women's Conference with all the Sisters
in the mission (34 including Senior Sisters) and we did some super fun
activities Friday morning that made me so grateful to be a woman and be
surrounded by so many strong women in the Church!
On
Saturday we had a stake Relief Society activity and we thought we would be
watching the Women's Conference but it was just a super long talent show where
everyone just sang hymns and a lady kept screaming into an already loud
microphone. Then we had a baptism right after!! Thida and Socheata Chhil were
baptized, and their sister is a Sister missionary here who got to come to their
baptism! It was so awesome!
Yesterday
(Sunday), Sister Luke and I got ready and looked super nice for church and when
we walked out of our apartment, it was POURING RAIN. I still don't own a poncho
she I put my cardigan in my bag and trekked through the rain. The water was up
to my waist in the streets and I was completely soaked after maybe 5 seconds of
riding my bike. We showed up to the church and I had to take off my dress in
the bathroom and ring out all the water before I went into the sacrament hall.
Then I had to put a huge scarf on the bench before I sat down so I wouldn''t
soak the bench. Unfortunately I still did haha but it's a good story! It was
also Sister Mead's birthday and we got to celebrate it on the roof with all the
other missionaries in our apartment! SO much fun! This week was full of so many
fun things, but it was also a week I have felt the spirit more than any other
week. It makes me so excited to hear from living Prophets and Apostles this
weekend (in Cambodia we watch it a week after) and learn so much! This church
is true and I am so grateful to be a missionary!!!! I love and miss you all!
Love,
Sister Bashford

Letter to Mom:
Hi mom :)
I love you and miss you
so much. I just wanted to say how much I love you and how I look up to you. We
got to watch women's conference and have a special day with all the sisters in
the mission and talk about women and it made me miss you a ton. I just hope you
are doing well with your back and with the family. I seriously miss all of you
guys so much! There isn't a single day that goes by where I don't think about you
all and miss you so much and wonder what kind of fun thing you are all doing
together. Just remember how much you are loved by me, dad, the kids, and
Heavenly Father. Sometimes out here in the field in this crazy country I forget
about myself too much and I focus on the love God has for others. I've never
had issues with self confidence until I have come here and I make an idiot of
myself every single day with the language. But I am discovering who I am more and more every
day and I am learning so many valuable life lessons. Some of the most important
are learning to have more love for myself and confidence, and having patience
with my companion and the people surrounding me. I always have thought I was a
patient person but my patience ha REALLY been tried the last two months. I just
follow my trainer around, obey her commands, look dumb when I don't understand
what people are saying, and take a ton of criticism. But I am putting my trust
in God and knowing that He knows what I am going through and Christ is going to
help me through all of this. I don't know why I am saying all this but I just
want you to know that I love you and you can do hard things. You are one of the
strongest people I know and if I can come be a missionary in Cambodia, you can
do anything :) I love you sssooooooooo much and hope you are having an awesome
fall break! Please enjoy yourself and make good memories!!
Love you!!!!
Sister Bashford
(Mom really needed this, like a love note from Heavenly Father to Mom through Maile)
